1940s Watercolour Painting, Farmhouse by George Jackson, Frame Size 16 x 13 ins
Age of Item: Painting from 1940. Frame circa 1970s.
Item Type: Original pen and ink with watercolour painting on fibrous/textured beige paper, framed and ready to hang.
Subject / Artist: Part view of the exterior of a old country house or large farmhouse, with entrance, grass verges, fence, trees and sky. The outlines are black ink and the colours are watercolour paints. Drawn in an wispy impressionist sketch style. Subtle, muted colours of browns and greens. Signed George Jackson 1940 bottom right.
Faint, old hand-written inscription on back of frame. Jackson was an artist from North Yorkshire, so maybe this painting is of a place in Yorkshire.
Frame Details:
Chunky moulded wooden frame edges in yellowish brown with nice grain, natural knots/markings, and a light varnish finish. Glass to front. Original recessed rear board surface with original inscription. Frame back has refurbished tabs, edging tape, metal eyes and cord.
Size:
External size, including frame, approx 16 x 13 inches, 40.6cm x 33cm. Upright.
Size of rear recessed board approx 14 x 11 inches, 35.6cm x 28cm. Upright.
Condition: Narrow white line above one of the trees but it seems to be original to the picture, otherwise painting very good. Wooden frame edges have various scuffs, nicks and marks, but a good solid frame. The back board is very aged and the inscription is faded, more on one side. Other rear fittings excellent.
