Antique 'Barbizon Les Glaneuses' Aquatint Print, Signed 'Le Garf' After J F Millet, Framed

Age of Item: Print from circa early to mid 20th century. The frame looks circa 1960s-1970s.
Item Type: Tonal colour print from an etching or engraving, most probably an aquatint. Hand-signed and titled by the etcher/engraver (see details below), framed. Ready to hang.

Subject:
A traditional French rustic scene of women gleaners, picking leftover crops in a field, with other field workers, a horse and hay cart, and buildings in the background. The style is natural-realism but with also a soft impressionist quality. Printing plate impression around the edge. Integral aged off-white borders with pencil written 'Barbizon - Les Glaneuses apres J F Millet, Le Garf' on the bottom border.

Artist:
The print was made by Le Garf (the working name of French artist and engraver Lucien Veder, 1902-1978), after an 1857 painting by French artist J. F. Millet (1814-1875), founder of the Barbizon school of artists.

Frame Details:
Moulded wooden frame, with speckled old gold colour finish, with embossed pattern to outer edge, and fine beading to inner edge. Glass to front. Hardboard back on frame with tabbed and taped edges. Metal eyes with cord for hanging (these are newer).

Size:
External dimensions, including frame, approx 39.2cm x 31.6cm x 1.9cm, about 15 1/2 x 12 1/2 x 3/4 inch. Size of artwork area only, excluding the borders and writing, approx 27.6cm x 21cm, 10 9/10 x 8 3/10 inches. Horizontal.

Condition:
The artwork area is very good with a few small dots in the sky. The borders have small spot marks, little blemishes and general age. When angled in the light a few small soft crease lines/little kinks become visible on the print surface but nothing unusual. Glass very good. Frame edges have general signs of age, scuffs, spots and blemishes, some loss of gold colour, but nothing major for an item of this age. Small marks on the backboard, otherwise back of frame is very good.
