Antique Bodyham Castle Sussex Small Engraving Art Print in Wooden Frame, frame marks
Print from the 1800s. Frame circa mid 20th century.
Antique small tonal black and white print from an engraving. Mounted and framed (vintage). Ready to hang.
Landscape with castle. Person and livestock to foreground. Lovely picture! Fine border line. Integral off-white border with title to bottom border 'Bodyham Castle Sussex' and artist and engraver names F. W. L. Stockdale and W. Woolnoth. Label on back of frame states 'Published by J & F Tallis, London, c. 1840-1850'.
Art Style: Fine, traditional, historical, architectural.
Frame Details: Double board overlay mounts (off-white top mount, and brown inner edge mount). Moulded wooden frame, mid brown with nice grain, and light varnish finish. Glass to front. Board back on frame with tabbed and taped edges. Metal eyes with cord for hanging. Some of the rear fittings are newer.
External size, including frame, approx 10 8/10 x 8 8/10 inches, 27.5cm x 22.4cm.
Size of visible print only including the white borders/title (the inner mount aperture size) approx 6 x 4 5/8 inches, 15.2cm x 11.8cm.
Orientation: Horizontal.
Condition: Print has a few small blemish spots, otherwise the print is excellent. The wooden frame edges have slight wear, variation in the varnish finish (a little lumpy in texture, in parts). Couple of small holes in one end of the frame caused by a previous fitting. Rest of frame very good.
