Print from the 1700s. Frame circa 1980s-90s.
Antique hand-coloured print (bookplate) from a copper plate engraving. Vintage mounted and framed. Ready to hang or stand.

Two birds, one perched on a branch, and one standing on foliage-covered ground. The paper is a slightly textured light cream colour. The texture has fine vertical and horizontal lines.
Title along the bottom states 'The Blue Jay and the Summer Red Bird from Carolina Published AD 1755. Geo Edwards Delin et Sculp.'.
The outlines and title are printed. The colours are hand-painted (watercolour paints or similar). The bookplate number 239 is hand-written.
The background has the faint imprint of text from the opposite page in its original placement in a book (this is commonly seen in this series of prints).
Label on back of frame states 'Hand-Coloured Print from a Copper Plate Engraving, Original Bookplate from 'A Natural History of Uncommon Birds by George Edwards, Published 1755'.
Art Style: Fine, naturalistic, ornithological.

Frame Details: Dark pink board overlay mount. Moulded wooden frame, warm reddish-brown with gold colour inner edge. Glass to front. Hardboard back on frame with newer tabbed and taped edges. Strut for standing and metal fixing for hanging.

External size, including frame, approx 13 3/4 x 11 7/10 inches, 34.8cm x 29.7cm.
Size of visible print only (the mount aperture size) approx 9 1/4 x 7 1/4 inches, 23.4cm x 18.3cm.
Orientation: Upright.

Condition: Print/painting is very good with a few small marks and spots, and slight additional yellowing to the very edges. See above description regarding residual text on the background. A few small marks on the mount, and on the gold edging on the frame. Slight wear to the wooden frame edges. Rest of frame very good.
