Print edition from the 1930s or earlier, of an artwork from the 19th or early 20th century. Frame circa 1980s.
Antique lithographic print (tonal black and off-white), mounted and framed (vintage). Ready to hang. Frame wear - see condition notes.

Artwork depicting the mythological scene of 'Circe and the Companions of Ulysses' by Briton Riviere, as labelled on back of frame. An outdoor scene of a lady with long hair and robes, sitting on a wide stone ledge with a wand next to her, with a group of pigs in front of the ledge, some of which appear to be coming up out of the ground! Circe has turned Ulysses and his men into pigs, by means of sorcery. Bushes and foliage to background, and a feeding dish to the corner. Riviere was a British artist, 1840-1920.
Art Style: Mythological, traditional, unusual, romantic, fine, mysterious, dramatic, Pre-Raphaelite.

Frame Details:
Slate board card overlay mount. Chunky heavyweight moulded composite-plastic frame edges, muted gold colour with moulded floral/leaves pattern to front, pale gold colour inner edging and beading, and mottled golden beige external sides. Glass to front. Hardboard back on frame with tabbed and taped edges. Metal eyes and rings, with cord for hanging. Some of the rear fittings are newer.

Size:
External size, including frame, approx 19 9/10 x 11 9/10 x 1 3/8 inches, 50.6cm x 30.2cm x 3.5cm.
Size of visible print only (the mount aperture), approx 14 x 6 6/10 inches, 35.6cm x 16.7cm. Horizontal.

Condition Notes:
Print, mount, glass and frame back excellent. The gold colour inner frame edges have various spot marks and blemishes. Other slight general wear and scuff marks/lines to frame edges and sides. Small chip to rear corner of frame.
