2 x Antique Victoria Carlsbad Porcelain Plates, Ladies Hunting Rubies and Diamonds by Carl Larsen

£50.00 GBP

Circa 1891-1918 set of two decorative antique porcelain plates.

Made by Victoria of Carlsbad, Austria. Backstamped but the stamps are smudged and illegible.
Pattern names: One named 'Ruby' and the other 'Diamond' by Carl Larsen. Names on the fronts.
Plates are generally circular with wavy shapes to the edges.
Each has a blue outer edge (one slightly darker than the other) with a fancy gold pattern. The outer centres are warm white with fancy gold patterns. The inner centre has a different illustration on each, in the classical style, both depicting three ladies in long flowing garments, in outdoor scenes. They appear to be hunting for gemstones and have various tools. In one scene they have found a diamond, and in the other rubies. White underneath the plates.

Diameter of each plate is 8 3/4 inches, 22.2cm.

Condition:
'Diamond' plate: Fine hairline crack on the edge of the picture (and corresponding on the back). On close examination, very small fine scuff marks on the picture. Edge patterns have a few small spots of wear and little dots of stray colour. Underneath
the plate also has various dots, dimples, stray specks of colour, and standing marks around the centre.
'Ruby' plate: Very light wear to the picture. Some little dimples and dots in the glaze, around the middle, from manufacture. Edge patterns have a few small spots of wear and little dots of stray colour. Underneath the plate also has various dots, dimples, and standing marks around the centre.
A beautiful set of plates! Recommended for use as decorative ornaments.
