Antique 'The Cloth Hall' Leeds by George Walker (b 1781) Aquatint Engraving Print, Framed
Antique colour aquatint engraving print, mounted and framed (vintage), and ready to hang.
Print from the 19th century. Frame circa 1970s
The interior if a merchants' hall, with gentlemen in a group, talking and looking at bundles of material. Tall windows and a beamed ceiling. The names 'New Street' and 'Cheapside' are on the walls. Narrow white border has printed names 'Geo. Walker Del., Published by Richard Jackson, Feb 1st, 1855, Engraved by E. Kaufmann, Lahr, Baden.' Separate original printed title label under the print states 'The Cloth Hall'.
Label on back of frame states 'The Cloth Hall, Kirkgate, Leeds, West Yorkshire by George Walker, 1781-1856, Aquatint Engraving Print, Published 1885', and also an old gallery label on the back.
Frame Details:
Print and title mounted on top of slate grey board. Simple narrow wooden frame edges in dark brown. Glass to front. Hardboard back on frame with tabbed and taped edges. Metal eyes and rings, with cord for hanging. Some of the rear fittings are newer.
Size:
External size, including frame, approx 14 1/2 x 11 6/10 inches, 36.8cm x 29.4cm.
Size of print only, including the tiny white border, 12 1/10 x 8 2/10 inches, 30.7cm x 20.8cm.
Orientation: Horizontal.
Condition Notes: On close examination the print has a few small, soft indent marks on the right hand side and some very faint marks on the roof area, otherwise the rest of the print is very good to excellent on the whole, for its age. Please note, the mark on the left hand side wall is part of the artwork/print itself, and not an external mark. Frame excellent with minor wear.
